Project in Development
Residual
Feature Documentary
Story and Script: Ana Amélia Arantes
SYNOPSIS
Subtle and explicit aspects of various forms of social segregation manifest themselves in restrooms. They become evident in interactions, usage, and even in the physical space itself. How can these spaces act as catalysts for sexism, racism, class elitism, LGBTQ-phobia, and also exclude intersex individuals and those with bodies outside of prevailing norms? Through diverse perspectives and languages, different people share their restroom stories.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The documentary Residual was made as a short film in 2023, with funding from the Belo Horizonte Municipal Culture Incentive Law. At the time, dozens of characters and locations were mapped out. Currently, the short film is consolidating its trajectory in the national festival circuit, with screenings already held in Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. The project, which continues to be developed for feature film production and series spin-offs, has been presented in markets and submitted to laboratories and funding calls.
